The leaf is a very effective laxative and purgative and is a particularly useful remedy for the occasional bout of constipation and is useful for evacuation relief in cases of fissures, haemorrhoids, after rectoanal operations, and in preparation of diagnostic intervention in the gastrointestinal tract. It irritates the lining of the large intestine, causing the muscles to contract strongly resulting in bowel movement (usually in 6 to 12 hours) and also stops fluid being absorbed from the large bowel helping to keep the stool soft. They are sure and safe even for children (over 12 years of age) and weak and elderly persons. Also useful in rheumatism, sciatica, gout and lumbago.

Compositions

  • Each 250 mg. capsule contains:
  • Cassia angustifolia Dried Extract (6:1) (Sana Patti) 250 mg.

Indications

Gout, habitual constipation, intestinal worms, lumbago, migraine, rheumatism and sciatica.

Contraindications

Not to be administered in the presence of intestinal obstruction, acute inflammatory intestinal diseases, diarrhoea, appendicitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or to children under 12 years of age, or during pregnancy, while menstruating or nursing.

Side effects

There are no known side effects.

Dosage

Take 2 capsules at night with water. Combine with 1 capsule of Ginger or Fennel to increase its palatability. Do not exceed recommended dosage. This product is not to be used for more than 10 days consecutively as prolonged use may result in dependence and it can cause what's known as lazy bowel syndrome - the inability to move stool without chemical stimulation. Rectal bleeding or failure to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative may indicate a serious condition. Discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Dietary Advice

Increase the amount of fiber you eat, drink more fluids, exercise regularly, and move your bowels when you have the urge (resisting the urge causes constipation).
